The Bespoke Story
"Isn’t nature incredible?! The centre piece to this ring is a star sapphire – and examples with a sharp six pointed star are incredibly rare.
When Lou got in touch, she sent me a photo of her mother’s jewellery that she wanted to remodel – my eye was immediately drawn to the star sapphire! This amazing stone has been on my bucket list to work with ever since I first discovered them about 18 years ago, so my excitement for this project was fever pitch!
Star sapphire is a type of sapphire that displays asterism – a star-like optical effect. As light hits the surface of the stone, it gives the effect of a star being trapped inside. This star moves across the stone as the light source moves – it’s just magical?!
Asterism – from the Latin ‘astrum’, meaning star – is caused by small needle-like inclusions of the mineral rutile. This causes the light to reflect in a rather unique way, causing a star to form on the stone.
These gemstones can come from mines in Australia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Burma.
We’ve paired this unique stone with diamonds from another of Lou’s mother’s rings to create a beautiful low profile, bezel set trilogy ring that Lou can wear everyday. The gold is recycled from her mother’s jewellery too!"

Jodie Gearing
Jodie is passionate about the stories attached to the commissions she designs. Our resident designer takes pride in working to each client’s individual brief and can turn her hand to any style from intricate pieces, to slick and contemporary designs.
Jodie was born and raised in the Bedfordshire countryside. She had an innate love for Art and Design so pursued this avenue by moving to Canterbury to complete a Foundation Course at The University for the Creative Arts. It was here that she discovered a love of metal work and jewellery when she experimented with mixed media. Paper, fabric, masking tape and paint turned to plastics and then copper, silver and gemstones – she had discovered jewellery design!
The next steps were a degree in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing and Jewellery at The University for the Creative Arts in Rochester where she won several awards and bursaries for her creative designs. After graduating in 2009, she worked for a bespoke jeweller for a year. Here, she fell in love with the stories of the clients she worked with and relished the education part of the job – passing on knowledge of precious stones, metals and design to customers to enable them to make an informed decision.
