Both earthly and eternal, they have come to represent our most precious connections to one other as well as a deep connection to our wondrous planet. The journey of every stone can be traced from source to sale.

Founder

Shazan Awam

Shazan was originally born in Sri Lanka - a figurehead in ethical mining and the birthplace of Princess Diana’s famous sapphire engagement ring - but later moved to Tokyo to study the creation of jewellery from loose gemstones. He then moved again to Hong Kong where he worked for a luxury gemstone wholesaler - where he would buy rare stones from mines and markets and sell them on.

After nearly a decade in the gemstone wholesale business, Shaz decided tocombine his passion for fine gemstones with his desire to create positive change in the jewellery industry. Deciding it was time to finally start making mine-to-market gemstones more accessible, affordable and sustainable – Shaz launched Gemdaia with this exact purpose.
